When I write a fic and try to get Holmes's and Watson's relationship right "Granada Style", this is always the scene (and the episode) I try to remember as a reference.

Watson will drop anything immediately to assist Holmes, alerted by just the smallest sound of pain, but there is a very very clear limit to what Holmes will him allow him to do (and it's not much). Watson will expect this, but he will not back off until Holmes gives a minute sign that he is alright, and that he is in fact truly thankful for Watson's help. He will not say it, but Watson will understand. And if Holmes choses to walk off alone after that, he will let him.

Holmes will allow Watson to drape a blanket around his shoulders. Watson is going to disapprove of Holmes's use of cocaine, but even this is going to happen nonverbally (but oh, Holmes understands). Holmes will pretend to ignore all of Watson's advice and take a case although he really should rest, and then he is going to do something absolutely monumental like deciding to quit drugs for good without ever informing Watson.

We never see this, but I think Watson will know. And he will say thank you in just such a indirect way and continue to support Holmes. I believe that Watson would be comfortable with talking things through at least from time to time, but Holmes cannot stand or do it, so Watson just ... learned his language.

There is just so much complicated nonverbal communication between the two! And it's so difficult because I feel like most of the time they will simply know what the other thinks and feels, but they will never truly discuss it.

Who Explored with Who in Chapter 1?

This is a question that has plagued my mind for a very long time, so I'm finally making a post about who I think teamed up with who!

There are three categories: Confirmed, probable, and guess. Confirmed means we saw it confirmed in the episode, probable means I think we can say that it probably happened, and guess is me taking a shot in the dark.

Teruko and Charles: Confirmed

Since Teruko is the character we follow, we saw that she explored with Charles the whole time (except when he ran off for a few minutes to make the weapons list). So they're confirmed.

Xander and David: Confirmed

The reason Teruko is forced to explore with Charles in the first place is because Xander confessed he was ditching her to explore with David. So this pairing is confirmed as well.

Arturo and Levi: Confirmed

Teruko and Charles run into these two in the infirmary, and Arturo states they spent their time together while he bandaged Levi's arm because of the injury the spikes caused. They're also confirmed.

Arei and Whit: Confirmed

Teruko and Charles walk in on them having a toilet paper fight exploring the bathroom together during a CG. Since Whit built a whole toilet paper fort, they were probably in there together for a while. So we can also confirm them as a pair.

Veronika and Ace: Probable

I've always been pretty confident about this one, even though it's never shown. Not only did Veronika and Ace's usual chapter 1 counterparts, Arturo and Levi team up, leaving them to instead team up with each other, but their relationship being established now also sets up Veronika forcing Ace into her movie night. After spending so much time exploring with him, she knew how easily scared he was and that he'd be fun to bring.

Min and Eden: Probable

At first, I was going to put Hu and Eden together, since they're friends later, but in the end I decided on these two, and I'm actually pretty confident about it. Eden probably would've put a little more effort into including Hu in the baking activity if they really were already friends, and Min actually does attend the baking activity despite it not being school-related. Min already being friends with or liking Eden makes that more believable, and them having a friendship or spending a lot of time together during chapter 1 makes Eden's guilt over Min's death also make more sense. If they already had a friendly connection and spent time together outside of that one baking scene, of course Eden feels way worse than if she accidentally caused the death of someone she only talked to once or twice.

J and Nico: Guess

I figured J will probably go with who she thinks is the coolest, and Nico's the only one I could justify her thinking might be kinda cool out of who I had left. Hu's too motherly (maybe reminding J of her Mom a little too much), and Rose...well, she might be the second-best pick, but her sleepiness might frustrate J, so I figured Nico was my best bet. They might be kinda socially awkward, but they're blunt in a way I think J would appreciate (and it's not like J's not socially awkward sometimes either). And I think Nico would end up liking J a fair bit, too. So I've decided to think they explored together.

Rose and Hu: Guess

Other than being the only two I had left, I figured they still work pretty well as a pairing. Hu's a lot more patient than some of the other students, so her being the one to put up with Rose constantly falling asleep mid-conversation would make sense. Plus, Hu says that the pairs are a matter of safety and makes Teruko team up with Charles instead of being nice and doing it herself. Maybe that's because she wanted to protect Rose, who she thinks could quite easily fall into a trap, and didn't want to leave her in Teruko's or especially Charles' hands. If she had teamed up with, say, Eden instead, maybe she would've been more comfortable helping Teruko out and going with Charles for her in her pursuit to be useful.

Aaaand that's it! If anyone has any other ideas for who paired up with who, I'd love to hear them. I'm actually pretty happy with my guesses, but I guess I'll never know if I'm right.

Nadia x MC who is painfully oblivious

Mentally sighing to herself whenever MC misses a sign.

Seriously, MC? Should she get on her knees and propose to them, so that maybe they realize that the Countess loves them?

Nadia can't stop thinking about what she might be doing wrong and how she could make her attraction more obvious.

When Nadia is into someone, she doesn't hesitate to flirt with them or be a little physical. Because she is flirting with them, though sometimes she questions if she's putting in enough effort.

Don't worry, Nadia, you're doing enough. It's just MC who is oblivious beyond imagination.

When MC fails to catch on, she gradually increases her efforts. She'd use her body language and lingering stares that last a few moments more than they should. Take their hand into hers and press a kiss onto each of their fingers. That's surely something that friends wouldn't do, right?

WRONG. MC still thinks she's just being nice to them.

So, what's the problem? That she's Nadia. She's a Countess and a Princess, so it's like, why would she? Even MC in the game is like, "Is our relationship strictly professional? Can I really kiss the Countess?" So yeah, it's because she's Nadia. MC certainly deserves her, but it's so unbelievable when a wonderful woman like her shows interest.

Actually, she's doing more than just showing interest. The Countess could buy out all the florists in Vesuvia for them and they still wouldn't realize what's up.

It's very frustrating.

She even asks Asra for help. He sits down with MC and tells them, hey, the Countess seems to be head over heels for you. Aaaand it also fails.

On the other hand, Nadia finds it kinda cute. Sweet, innocent MC. But, please, stop torturing her and just kiss her already.

If, despite all her efforts, MC still doesn't notice how much she's longing for them, Nadia will confess her feelings, though that would make her feel embarrassed.

Once it all clicks to MC (probably when Nadia grows too frustrated and explicitly tells them that she loves them) and they begin their relationship, Nadia may or may not tease them about it.

Okay, finally. FINALLY sharing this silly OC of mine. Ugh. I love her trust me. I had to rework her species a little bit in a way that made sense.

Hey art! New stuff! Aaaand if you're in the loop there has been a new cookie run game!.... I'll share my thoughts in a separate part on this post cuz I got a lot to say >_>;;;

But yeah! This is Marbled Danish Cookie! One of the brand new cookies released at Witches Castles launch, honestly when I saw him I was very interested, but then when I luckily got him via the gatcha, I just grew more attached to him! I'm in the middle of the part of the story he's in but I already know he's grade A regressor material 🥹 and since Cheesecake is also in this game I can soooo see her looking after him.

I def can't wait to draw more of him since he's been on my mind ALOT ever since I got him and saw him in the story, so look forward to that c:

Cookie Run Witches Castle is so damn pay to win and frustrating to play it's not even funny

It's a mobile puzzle game where you match blocks instead of candy crushing it so you know it's already gonna be very luck based. The gatcha system is very idiotic with how you get things and especially cookie's! Now in kingdoms it's understandable (kinda) that you get soul stones and sometimes actual cookies! Because that's just what the gotcha only offers, in this game however you have residents, furniture and THEN cookies.... it's a real gamble on what you get since you need to max out a meter for anything to get something by ten in the gatcha! And the seasonal one??? Completely pay to win since you can't earn the special currency for it by normal gameplay...

Now I'm probably sounding pretty unfair right? The game did JUST come out, how can it be this ba- I'm on level 253

Let that sink in...

This game also has a story, similar to kingdoms! But the thing is that since it's a damn puzzle game about luck! I can't just play through and enjoy the story, I HAVE to play many levels to get a few story beats... and after you've been stuck on a level for long enough you start to... not really care about the story anymore. Like right now I'm only playing through the game just to see what goes on with Marbled Danish, but after that I can't see myself playing this game for much longer, unless the Devs do something drastically fix all the things I've mentioned :/

How about 1, 3, 5, 7, 8 9 & 11 for the ❤️🧡💛bl ask game 💚💙💜 (this might be my sneaky way to get bl recs)

1. Favorite Main Couple

Hira & Kiyoi, from Utsukushii Kare/My Beautiful Man.

For one, I really like these characters, not only for what they are like as a couple, but for them. For their personalities, their thought process, the way they talk and feel about things. That already sets them apart from other couples that I've enjoyed as far as their romance went, but didn't get invested in (both!) the characters themselves—and I noticed there seems to be a correlation between how much I like the characters involved, and how much I care about their romance.

But if we're talking about them as a couple, I think what I like the most about their relationship is the equilibrium. The idea that Hira and Kiyoi are perfectly balanced.

Aaaand I know there is definitely at least one person who have watched the show going “WHAT” right now, but let me explain first 🤚🧐

Hira loves in a way that is very, very specific, and Kiyoi wants to be loved in a certain way that is also very specific. The love that Hira has to give, not everyone can handle; the love that Kiyoi would like to receive, not everyone can give to him. The fact that they meet and somehow find in each other exactly what they craved for?

That's the stuff miracles (and OTPs) are made of.

3. Favorite Main Character

Hey, have I ever told you the story of How I Met My Blorbo? No? Well. Would you believe it. It was actually through a “Most Whipped” poll from the infamous @ bl-bracket.

It was the second round, and he was winning against Kurosawa, from Cherry Magic—someone whose whippedness I was already familiar with, and thought would be pretty hard to beat. I didn't know who this Hira guy was, or what he could have possibly done or be like to be considered more whipped than Kurosawa. So, already intriguing. I went back to check the first round. On that round, he had won by an even larger margin. It was almost ridiculous. Taking a look at the comments left in the reblogs of both rounds, who I got described back to me was a boy who was so whipped it was considered weird and probably unhealthy. Huh! Very intriguing indeed. By then, I was practically sold.

It was only a surface level of interest at first, just because I think Being Whipped is one of the best character traits for someone in a romantic relationship to have; as well as being very intense, and even a little (or a lot) weird about it.

But then, I actually met him and *breathes in* God, there's so much to say about Hira. I fear I'll never get to say it all... but let me summarize to the best of my abilities (I'll try to keep it short).

The Hira that we're first introduced to is a resigned boy who feels inadequate and rejected by his school peers. His response to that unwelcome environment is that he, himself, doesn't wanna be a part of the community—he'd rather keep to himself, or “be invisible”, as he puts it. He finds comfort in his solitude, or at least he tries to.

He has a hobby—photography—but he feels like he just does that for the sake of doing it. There's nothing in particular that he'd like to photograph. He's just going with the flow. All he does in life, it seems, is go with the flow, letting the tides take him forward.

Essentially, he's lacking companionship and a purpose, and that's a very frustrating way to live. When you just lack one or the other, you can still find some fulfillment in what you have. But when you lack both? It gets really hard to think of your life—or yourself—as valuable.

So when he meets Kiyoi Sou, and decides to dedicate his whole being to him—body, mind, and soul? I get it. I really do. Because the acts of service give him purpose, a reason to be, and it also establishes a connection to somebody, even if it's unilateral. It's a chance to be present, but somewhat still at the margins, never the one at the center of attention.

Hira believes he's unworthy of attention. He stays so much in his own head, he can't see his own qualities. And mind you, he has plenty of qualities! For example: Hira is book smart (see: finishes his homework much faster/with less difficulty than the others), strong (see: no less than three people are needed to hold him back when he's defending Kiyoi with his own hands), competent (see: learning how to do all house chores by himself), talented (see: admired by the other members of his uni's Photography Club), and handsome too (see: gif above people who had never met him before commenting on his looks and even hitting on him as soon he takes his hair off his face and dresses in an outfit that complements his body). Well-mannered, loyal, honest to a fault. And cute, in an awkward way. And funny, even when he has no intention to be.

But, of course, he has some flaws too, like... *frowns*... *frown deepens*... It will come to me... *staring at the wall*... Oh. He usually won't communicate how he feels unless someone else prompts him to. Which can be frustrating and cause problems... but that's on everyone else *shrugs*

(I jest like I'm not one of the people who have felt frustrated because of this...)

As much as he might struggle to communicate how he feels verbally, though, usually his face will give him away. Be it showing his displeasure, or his awe. And no one shows awe like Hira Kazunari. Like, I don't know how the actor, Riku, does that, but you can see literal stars in his eyes sometimes. “Oh, you mean heart eyes?” nononono ☝ I've seen heart eyes. That's not it. It's not the look you give a lover—it's the look of someone who travels back in time and watches the universe born.

Which sounds normal, right? No! No, it doesn't! Now you get what I mean about this guy?! How can someone be so passionate about anything? He's so... So. He's so much. He found what he wanted to dedicate his life to, and he never once doubted the conviction he has in its merit. That was it for him. The fucking big bang, over and over, forever. Nothing can compare to that, and his life is fulfilled as long as he gets to keep experiencing it.

... Anyways. He's a fascinating little guy, and a kindred spirit to me. I love watching him discover that he's capable and deserving of being and having much more than he assumes he is—despite his every attempt to deny himself so.

5. Favorite Female Character

So, I already answered this one time, but allow me to take this awesome opportunity to mention two other female characters that haunt me to this day—the sisters from Manner of Death, Janejira and Rungtiwa.

Now, if you're not familiar with them—basically, one is one of the most disgusting people you'll ever have the displeasure of knowing, and the other did nothing wrong in her life and suffered more than Jesus.

Jane, although not being there in person for most of it, is a fundamental piece to the narrative. She's what brings everything together. You could almost say MOD is her story—about discovering what happened to her and why that happened to her; her motivations, and the conclusion to her mission.

Honestly, I don't think I could do half of what Jane had the courage to attempt. Except for Tan and Dr. Bunn, it seemed like the whole world was against her. Powerful, terrifying people, as well as people close to her. People who should have been on her side no matter what, were the ones who hurt her the most. That in itself could break anybody's spirit. But she kept going. When the ones who should have defended her weren't there, she fought back for herself. She said she would do it herself. She would put an end to it herself; finally take back the control of her story.

When I think about all the rage, horror, and hurt that woman must have felt, I just about go mad all over again.

And Rungtiwa. When I talk about Jane's older sister, it might sound like I hate her. And I do. She's the character I hate the most out of every universe. The day she has no more haters, I'm no longer in this world.

But, as it is inevitable, the more you hate somebody, the longer they stay with you. I'll never forget about Rungtiwa, or how deep run her greed. What it led her to do, and to become.

7. Top 5 BL

Utsukushii Kare

A few months ago, I read a list in here, on this very website. Someone had asked for recommendations on High School Japanese BLs, and the kind owner of the blog made a list of their favorites. There were about five of them, it wasn't a long list, but Utsukushii Kare was listed as one of them.

That was very weird.

No, I don't disagree with the author of the post. Utsukushii Kare is good, and should be recommended. There was nothing wrong with that list, technically. But it still felt weird, to see Utsukushii Kare there, among the others. And it was then I realized that, before that moment, I had never, ever, ever thought of this drama as a High School Love Story.

I had never thought of it as a story that had a school as a setting, and it wasn't just because they were only high school students for half of it. I didn't consider Hira's house as the setting either, nor any of the other locations they passed through. Not even the city they lived in. In my head, to call those places the setting of their story was technically correct, but also completely wrong.

“Well, Brace, where did you consider the story was set, then?” Hira & Kiyoi's World, of course?????? What kind of stupid ques-

Listen. Even when they were at school, in many of those scenes, it was just the two of them. When they were outside, too, they were alone together, in most of them. And when not, more often than not, they would be looking at each other, would be thinking of each other. It was like nothing else mattered... more.

This drama helped me give name to my favorite trope of all time, which I now call A World of Two. Well, it's more like a dynamic than a trope, and one day I'd like to talk about it more extensively in a separate post, because there are specific causes and possible collateral effects to it—but it's basically when two people make each other the center of their worlds.

When they come together, it's like they are in a separated space and time from everything. It's a whole world in a single space, that they share together, and it can only exist because of the connection they have. Some kind of mutual understanding or attachment that makes the ones outside of it, strangers, but the two inside, natives; from the same land, the same home.

(In that space, during that time, they feel more like themselves than in any other.)

Never Let Me Go

I struggle to find words to describe or something to compare it to... It's like...

A movie from the 1970's that is set in the 2020's, except the vibes are not futuristic, but of an old play, a tale as old as time. A modern fairytale. A dream that you wake up from and it's like you just came back from an adventure; all your memories of it have a glint to them, the colors in tones you have never seen, your heart longing for another world, the feeling of plenitude. A melody that sounds grand in a ball room, but intimate in your home, when you play it for a loved one. A blend of summer love and 72 years of marriage. Butterflies in your stomach. Heaven on Earth.

The more I talk, the more pretentious I sound (although it's all true). So let me try to keep it simple: I like the classics. I like when people join forces to fight against the world together, overcoming obstacles and the miserable situation they are in. But I also think there should be just as much—actually, even more—joy, love, and hope, in between all that. To show what they could be, what could be theirs, if it wasn't for all The Horrors. I believe that's what makes the most satisfying Happy Endings.

... There's also something about how Palm and Nuengdiao would get lost in each other's eyes. The recognition there—a conversation between their souls, that no one else was privy to.

Strangers From Hell

Still funny that the devil fell in love with him and Yoon Jongwoo tried to convince you he didn't understand why, but he was lying the entire time.

Also my doctor said I can call BL whatever I want, because of the uniquely acute vision I have (he's a dentist).

KinnPorsche

A part of me stayed at that safehouse. It may never find a way out.

... Also. Maybe some people look back now and are able to think KinnPorsche was not that big of a deal, but to me, she still remains That Bitch™.

The cinematography, those locations—they are severed in my brain. Most of the songs from the soundtrack were not made with it in mind, but it was almost like they were. I still listen to many of them. And I can still repeat many of those lines of dialogue from memory—a reflection of how many times I had them repeated to me because of how impactful or iconic they were for us. The storyline was engaging, every week. Both the protagonists and antagonists were entertaining. There were many characters, and they made us remember them all. Even those who were only there briefly. And all three main couples were good—you'd get hurt no matter what your preference was :D

And all the while, great action scenes, plus some other surprises no one had ever seen on television anywhere.

It was the most thrilling experience I've had watching anything, and sometimes I fear I'll never get to feel that again.

Love in the Air

Everyone puts different values on different things. LITA might be a bit rough around the edges, but both Love Storm and Love Sky are comfort zones to me.

Their stories are, at their core, about trust. And you know what? It's easy to make a story about that in which one of the characters doesn't trust easily and the other is this admirable, dependable person... but that's not quite how it goes here.

In LITA, the people (Rain / Prapai) who need to earn another's (Payu / Sky) trust, don't exactly inspire that trust in the beginning. In fact, they do the opposite, and need to work for it, to become a version of themselves that they, too, come to believe that their partners deserve.

Sky's and Payu's trust issues come from past relationships that went wrong, but in very different ways. Sky was in an abusive relationship, and discarded when it was over; Payu was rejected for his personality, his overbearing tendencies. Those experiences led them to not open up their hearts as easily again.

On the other end of this, there are Prapai and Rain, and they are... they are a mess, it's the word. They are so lost, at their respective starting points. But Rain, at least, receives instructions: Payu wants him to succeed, if Payu—the way he is—is what Rain decides is right for him. If he's serious about it. And despite the initial mishaps, it's always clear that they are a perfect match, singing to each other's tune.

There was no such clarity, however, when it came to Prapai and Sky. In fact, when people were first introduced to Prapai, a lot of us thought that he was... inadequate. That he was not right for Sky, and he would not care for him the way Sky deserved.

And then, what happened? We cried. We bawled our eyes out, because of how much he genuinely fucking cared. And some of us (me), I dare say, have never recovered from that.

8. First BL

The first BL drama I've watched was Where Your Eyes Linger, back when it was released in 2020. A friend thought I'd be interested in seeing history being made, so she made us watch together. At the time, I was not into asian dramas yet—the few I watched every now and then were because of my friend.

Rewatching it recently, I realized WYEL has a ship dynamic that I usually enjoy a lot, and some well done emotional scenes—which, for some reason, didn't have an effect on me the first time, because I don't remember the story lingering with me after. Probably because it was short and passed too fast, if I had to guess? But I can appreciate it for what it is more, now.

It took three more BLs till I became a regular watcher—I watched Addicted (stumbling upon it by chance on youtube) and Semantic Error (presented by the aforementioned friend), before watching Manner of Death, a story so dope that it made me fold and search for more BLs on purpose, just in case there were other stories that good out there. It was the first step into a world of possibilities I was previously unaware of, and I have found I quite like it in here.

Right now I don't really have the energy to binge, so it's been a slow catch up with my watchlist. I've been trying to watch BLs from different countries (because this year most have been Thai) and dramas in general of other genres (because most of what I've watched this year was romance). Also more GLs (there is a great diversity of them available right now!). But yes, as for BLs, only the ones listed.

Oh, but I'm also waiting for new episodes of a korean BL animation called Shutline...? Which is more smut than plot, to be completely frank, but I started watching because the main characters are a mechanic and a gang member whose job includes killing people (that might sound familiar 😬). Apparently, “I'm watching because there's a mechanic” is the new “I'm watching because there's a dentist” for me (and only God knows the places that will take me).

11. Most Anticipated Upcoming BL

It might come as a surprise, as I've been very tight-lipped, lowkey, and downright secretive about it... but it's the (alleged) romcom series The Heart Killers.

I just think “approaching a dangerous person with ulterior motives without getting caught” is an intriguing premise, you know? Keeping elaborated secrets is a difficult task, especially when it might cost your life; worse when you lose the plot and get enticed by your own lies, the fantasy you created for someone else, and might end up breaking your own heart in the process.

That's a ride that is bound to be full of ups and downs, and I need to know how high they're gonna take us before the drop, as well as how rough or delicate will be the pick up later.

I'm also just really excited to meet these characters and see how their dynamics will play out. I'm compelled by Bison's longing for freedom; allured by Kant's charms; amused by Style's shamelessness; and, last but not least, possessed by a mighty need to see someone reach inside Fadel's armor and pull at a loose thread until he falls apart.

I just think this one is gonna be fun. :)

Ok I am snooping on your AU but I would like to ask- how is everyone’s dynamic with each other ? Is it essentially the same as in JTTW or do you have different relationship dynamics between all of them? Or do you have special little quirks they have or do, interesting headcannons, little fears or even gripes that the pilgrims may have ?

mmmmm there are a lot of similarities to JTTW but with some nuances since i do focus on the interpersonal aspect more than the allegorical on my au!

For instance, Longma is still a stand-in for the human will, but he's more active in the story. He's often the one pushing the others to keep going, encouraging them to come up with plans or not give in on a fight, he keeps them from wasting time but doesn't step in unless he has to. The fact that he's not always in his horse form also goes a long way xD

The fact that in my AU he's also the head disciple makes for an interesting dynamic shift. The others often turn to him for advice or well, to Do Stuff, but he's still a prince and very good at delegating jobs xD He's also the last line of defense for Tripitaka, so when he's not outracing demons, he's the one putting up a fight to keep any kidnappers away. Stallions can be quite terrifyingly protective when they need to be, after all!

Wujing is the second disciple and it shows. He often uses his impressive size for shelter from the weather when none other is available. Due to his higher status after Bajie and Wukong get recruited, he wasn't the luggage carrier for a long time, the task falling on Wukong overall. However as the relics begin to pile up and the dangers get worse, he kind of takes up the mantle out of practicality. He has a severe fear of bladed weapons due to his punishment, and though he has no visible scars from it, the mental toll is very heavy on him. Despite all that, he takes his role seriously and is quite reasonable on his requests from Wuneng and Wukong, so their antics get toned down thanks to him and Ao Lie.

As for the other two welllllll, they are still very close and very prone to squabbling. Think youngest and younger sibling dynamic, one moment they are at each other's throat, the next they are trading quips, the next they are fighting over the last slice of food, and the next they are swearing undying loyalty to each other. Often they are left to their antics unless it affects the rest of the group which, happens more often than not.

Wukong is very close to his characterization in the book, equal parts rowdy grandpa and puffed up teenager, wearing his heart on his sleeve and always surprising the others with his moments of wisdom and clarity. Same thing for Bajie, he's very much a hardworking being and has an exasperated fondness for Wukong under the bluster and whinging.

Wukong is much more tactile in my au, which took the others some time to adjust to, as well as his (seemingly) random acts of incredible violence and ruthlessness. Before he's a demon or a man or an allegory for the mind, he's a monkey. They bite and screech when angry, they steal and hoard food for themselves, he lived 500 years as a wild animal and it colors his morals and thinking a lot. Most of what the others can deem as his evil nature is just brutal nature practicality, and as the others are either human or have memories of their past as nobility or celestial beings... it leads to quite a bit of conflict.

Aaaand then there's Tripitaka trying to keep his gaggle of apprentices in line xvx

My Tripitaka is closer to the historical Xuanzang than the fictional one, he's the son of a nobleman who chose to live as a monk and took the journey illegally. His call to adventure came through his own frustration and sadness over the lacking scriptures available, and he requested the emperor to go many times, always denied. One day the emperor gifted the abbey a cassock and staff from the West, in a not-so-subtle hint for him to just stop asking and move on. To everyone, they seemed like your average items, but he could see their sacred nature. Guan Yin then came to him in a dream, saying that whoever left for the scriptures should take "whatever they needed" and go. Tripitaka argued that the emperor forbade anyone to make the trip, but Guan Yin just repeated herself and left it at that.

So he did the reasonable thing, plotted with his older brother who lived in the abbey with him, gathered resources and bailed to the west, stealing the cassock and staff on his way out. He thought he was failing a test when Guan Yin appeared, but she reassured him he'd need the relics' protections on the journey ahead. Still throughout the journey, Tripitaka lies and cheats and steals, whatever he needs to continue the journey, and those sins weigh heavy on him. Especially with the sort of disciples he was given. He desperately tries to be a role model for them, but those moments of weakness feel three times worse than they should.

His relationship with Wukong is very hot and cold, seeing an almost paternal figure on the monkey at times but also knowing that the demon could kill him anytime he dropped his guard - and in fact even tried to once! Wukong has a lot of issues to work through and sadly a lifetime of violence makes for a very jumpy and tense monkey, which is a bad mix for the squishy human of the group. He tries his best to comfort the monkey despite the very obvious discomfort he brings him, and Wukong does the same for him... in his own way.

They get along the best when Wukong shares stories from his past or teaches him new things he never learned before, particularly when they get together to work on translations. Ao Lie is also a savvy person, and is often the one helping Tripitaka earn favor with the local kings and nobles to get their "papers" stamped and approved, or yknow, very plainly forged.

Wukong also gets saddled with matters of food more often than not, and he always surprises the group with how delicious the food he can come up with just by foraging ingredients. He's a very good and dedicated cook! It's also fun that Bajie had to go vegetarian on northern Tibet in my AU, cus the communities there are mostly pastoral so most foods are meat-based. He wasn't joking when he said he was rather starved by the time he got recruited, but Wukong luckily gets him back on track.

Wujing is, rather reclusive unless he has to interact with the others. Him and Tripitaka have a lot of baggage to work through, what with the whole eating-his-sifu's-past-incarnations situation. Coupled with his own sword trauma, Wujing and Wukong are on the same level of "unnerving threats" for Tripitaka's subconscious. It's very slow and wobbly progress between these three, and it's thanks to Bajie's jokes and Ao Lie's drive that they keep pushing on.

On the bits where my Expedition and Sun Clan AUs intersect, Tripitaka, Ao Lie and Wukong have a lot of filial guilt to process as well. Wukong may flaunt how they are the ones who left the family and how they must act for it, but the Havoc in Heaven and the siege on Huaguoshan clearly weigh on him and it very much shows when he thinks the others don't notice. Meanwhile Tripitaka feels guilt for involving his own brother in his planning for the journey, knowing that if he's found he'll suffer for it, and likely his father and mother too. And Ao Lie well, he's effectively in exile until the journey is either complete or well, he serves his death sentence. The occasional times when the group's path crosses with his father or his uncles is also a... tense bit for him. Needless to say, pearls make him very twitchy xvx

okay so let's get one thing out of the way here first: yeah, idia has trouble taking care of himself properly, and yeah, vil might be a little frustrated by that. but it's only because he sees the potential that idia has and wants him to be the best he can be, and wishes he didn't have to struggle so much. but he respects so so much that idia tries, has been trying more and more every day since returning to school after the STYX incident. and he does his best to nudge him in the right direction and show that he appreciates the effort he puts in.

there are days when idia just can't believe vil would ever want to be with someone like him, but on some days, he thinks of course vil would want someone as smart and capable and accomplished as he is. vil deserves nothing less than the best, so of course they're perfect for each other! and vil always reminds idia of this when he's feeling down and being self deprecating.

vil may seem perfectly confident and put together, but he, too, needs comfort sometimes. idia isn't the best at knowing how to do so, and feels clumsy and awkward about it, but again, he tries. he does the best he can to try to get vil's mind off of things and make him smile, and when vil really needs to talk, idia does his best to listen and support him however he can.

i think that when idia can tell vil is feeling down, he tries really hard to make him feel extra special and find some sort of event they'd both like or offer to take him on a more public date, which vil really appreciates because he knows how introverted and anxious idia is.

some of the things they enjoy doing on occasions like this include going to themed cafes, or going to the movie theater together!

they also go to antique shops, which idia thought sounded incredibly boring the first time vil suggested it. but then he found several cool things he wanted to show ortho and had to reluctantly admit to vil that he had a good time.

sometimes they also go to the arcade and idia always, without fail, wins at least one plushie from the claw machines for vil. vil didn't even particularly like plushies before but now he has a little shelf where he puts all of the ones he gets from idia.

one day vil secretly goes to the arcade on his own to win a cute little black cat plushie for idia. not try to win it, but win it no matter how much he actually sucks at the claw machine games. he even texts ortho asking for tips.

ortho texts back offering to come by the arcade and break into the prize compartment for him. vil very emphatically refuses and instead opts to play the game over and over until he wins fairly because dammit, he's going to win a plushie for his boyfriend like idia keeps doing for him.

this cat plushie genuinely becomes one of idia's most treasured possessions.

vil really enjoys animated movies but doesn't often watch them with other people because there's just something about them that makes him more likely to cry during them. he and idia watch them together a lot and idia likes to poke fun at vil for crying while 1) still cuddling up to him and letting him cry on his shoulder anyway and 2) doing a terrible job of hiding the fact that he too is crying by the end.

Petra loves naps. To the extent that she semi-regularly blocks time on her calendar for a power nap if she knows she’s in for a particularly long day. Once Ava realizes this, blankets start appearing on the backs and arms of every chair or couch Ava has ever seen Petra fall asleep on at the warehouse. (Did Ava enlist Nat’s help for picking good blankets? Signs point to yes.) Holland has what is, at this point, a frankly embarrassing number of never-to-be-sent love letters in various states of completion hidden in a shoebox in her closet. These notes (obviously) contain all of her Sappiest Nate Feelings ™️ and would fully expose all the dreamiest romantic parts of herself that she likes to pretend don’t exist (v delusional of her to think they aren’t obvious 😌) on the topic of not-so-secret sappiness, Leila has SO many doodles and sketches of Morgan in her notebooks, the margins of meeting minutes, etc. I know this is probably going to be obliterated by actual canon, but to me, the first time Del says “I love you” to Felix is totally accidental. he does something that makes her laugh so hard her sides ache, and when she catches her breath, she says, “oh, I love you,” out loud without meaning to.

♥ - family headcanons

canon be damned, Leila has a great relationship with her grandparents and has always spent a fair amount of time with them. This has continued into adulthood. She’s especially close with her grandfather, who inspired her love of cooking (and taught her how to make perfect tahdig). Petra doesn’t want a family in the traditional, married-with-kids sense—never has, really, but certainly not in her current line of work! she’s much more flexible on the marriage part than the idea of having kids, though (so, if that were something that were important to Ava or if she proposed, Petra would be fine with it; she just wouldn’t care if they didn’t, either). Despite her stated lack of interest in children, Holland is the one who broaches the idea of adopting the supernatural orphan who ends up at the facility one day after falling through a portal. (this hc is based solely on vibes/a random thought I had literally years ago; my brain latched onto it and now it’s her canon, I cannot explain myself further.) Del snoops for more info on Rook in the Agency’s databases pretty much as soon as she learns he was also a human liaison for Wayhaven. Rebecca won’t talk about him, and she wants to know everything she can (few things frustrate her more than feeling left in the dark).

∇ - old age/aging headcanons I meannnn this is just (im)mortality/Turning vs Not hcs, yes? Because that’s how I’m taking it :D

Delaney thinks eventually becoming a vampire is more or less a no-brainer decision. I’m not sure when she’ll start making any kind of serious plans, but she might be the only one for whom it’s a very clear and definite “yes, this will happen at some point.” A rare instance in which Petra doesn’t make a purely impulsive decision haha. She absolutely wants to see All The Data on success rates, procedural notes, etc. Of all my twc girlies, she’s probably the one with the most practical concerns/considerations re: not staying human. I think she ends up deciding to go for it(?) Leila is another relatively easy “yes, why wouldn’t I?” with the caveat that she has a bit of an identity crisis afterwards — and especially as the ramifications of her decision start to sink in (friends/loved ones aging, etc.). She won’t ultimately regret her decision, per se, but there will definitely be Some Feelings about it! aaaand I genuinely have no idea where Holland will land. She has the most anxiety about it by FAR. She really struggles with wrapping her head around what the realities of living forever would be like, day to day. (Also, she has a deep-seated fear of choosing immortality and having it force her to learn the definitive point at which people (…okay, Nate) stop(s) wanting her around.) She ends up having a number of conversations with Adam, weirdly enough (she’s definitely least close with him, out of all of UB), about most of her concerns, which is a cool bonding opportunity for them.

Sighs not my FFVII muses coming back because of Rebirth. I've sort of shelved Roche for now since I am enjoying getting to write with one vs writing him for now but he does still exist if wanted.

I'm gaining a lot of muse for Zack and Tifa on top of already having Reno, Leslie, Biggs, and Wedge.

But also my brain is still in a very bad place and everything changes in me at the drop of a hat so take it with a grain of salt.

It was really nice to be able to write some FF16 again too! Though for some reason, it was much easier to slip into Barnabas than it was Dion who I mained for HOW LONG sheesh.

I'm stuck in the 'anger' portion of my grief. I have 3 free therapy sessions through my insurance specifically to address grief that I will be going to starting next week. But the anger is really starting to be coming intrusive and concerning. I'm misplacing it too. I can notice all of this AFTER the fact, but I can't seem to stop myself in the heat of the moment. Like, my dogs pissed me off so much last night that I legitimately threw a (very small) vacuum at my door. I also slammed a lot of doors and screamed incredibly loudly into a pillow before storming out of the house and angrily marching around dollar general until I felt okay enough to come home. My anger does not ever get taken out on people or animals, even when they're the reasoning behind it, so I'm really really glad for that. But I am not the 'throwing a vacuum, running out of the house, slamming doors" kind of person and I didn't like any of that at all. But I felt so out of control in the moment.

I do think the anger and lack of patience is from the grief. I think I flutter in and out of the anger stage of grief and sometimes it just gets to be too much and I'm overstimulated and I just sort of...lose it. So I'm glad I'll have the therapy to address that. As soon as I calmed down I was booking appointments so damn fast because it is NOT acceptable behavior.

Aside from that, things have been okay at best. I just want my grandma and she's not here and she will never be here again and it's not fair to her. I struggle with it every day. I know it's only been a month (on sunday) and that it's still fairly fresh, but I didn't expect it to still be eating at me THIS intensely at this point.

I miss my fiance. I want him to come back desperately.

I want to write more, I think it's helping a bit to get some anger and frustration out but my motivation is so lacking, I feel like I cannot start anything without my hand being held.

On a happier note....I started playing pocket frogs again and those lil froggies are so damn cute. If nothing else, I have my froggo babies. And my best friend has been shiny hunting pokemon at night for me to fall asleep to so I don't feel so alone. I super appreciate that so much. AAAAND Stuart has been playing Rebirth a little bit every afternoon too so I can see the game/story since I don't have a ps5 so that's been nice too <3

i skipped taking notes on a bunch of things i watched and i'm already starting to forget things lmao so uhhh very quickfire thoughts on a few other things i picked up for this season!

raise wa tanin ga ii: picked this one up for ishida akira and i was pretty sure i would either love it or hate it, and after one ep... ehhh i'm leaning towards love it but kind of more like just enjoying it a reasonable amount so far? this guy sucks in i guess a fairly hilarious way but good lord this girl should not have to put up with this. i mean i'm sure she'll crush it but still

i did find it really funny that the girl's grandpa was like "this kid i want you to marry is HOT as FUCK just like his granddaddy when he was young" like ok so... go fuck his granddaddy yourself? leave the girl out of this yeesh

oh also the animation uhhh... is unfortunately not as good as i would like it to be. the manga art looks absolutely gorgeous, the animation is a bit janky. not like a complete deal breaker but just. really not ideal

but cannot be denied that it is a weird premise! guy's wife who died ten years ago has been reincarnated and reinserts herself into the lives of her husband and daughter (from her former life) but she is! a ten-year-old girl!

like it's a fascinating set-up, the only thing i'm frustrated about so far, a bit, is that the adults here (husband and daughter) are so not asking enough questions about like. why this sassy lost child is constantly showing up at their place

then again i kind of like that...? because, like, it's grief babey! they are still not over her death, and of course grief can make people act in irrational ways. so while it sometimes feels frustrating, to the point that i want to shake them and be like FIND OUT HER HOME SITUATION RIGHT NOW, it also feels really real that they wouldn't do the most 'right' and rational thing in this situation

i Love that you’ve brought up this song. it’s definitely become an arken song for me too. that was one of my favourite scenes to write, that morning-after opening. but yeah, any sezen aksu takes me back to arken now. i like to imagine arda introducing kenan to all the classics, hah.

aaaand i began writing the sequel from kenan’s pov but feel i began to struggle with the flow of it, compared to the arda pov. so frustrating. even i (heavy italics) can barely get into ccdnf kenan’s head. anyhow, i was thinking of perhaps dropping an unrelated arken fic in the interim to take the pressure off of the sequel, and yet.. i still feel so immersed in ccdnf arken? whew. will hopefully figure it out soon. 💭

i did see his goal! been watching loads of the ucl games. he’s really making us all proud. the italian also took me by surprise, very impressive. so much fic-able content, honestly..

"Seriph Aries" concept sketches,

MultiReality Seriph is the commander beside Alev who grows frustrated by Alev's hesitancies/lenience towards the Oceanics. And after Alev essentially betrays the mystics, Seriph takes his position. They are sadistic and methodical, although do care deeply for certain people and are very passionate about their beliefs. Their passion can cloud their judgement and cause them to lash out with their words.

Larian Seriph is a chameleofos Daemin with geomancy. Both at their core are the same, but in a different font due to environment. Seriph is a member of the DR and a couple years older than Kyren (around 26). He was a partner of Thorston's before they came across Kyren, and were a constant influence through the years. They weren't as abrasive as Thorston, and often expressed sibling-like affection towards kyren. Yet they still were prone to verbal abuse when angered, and flip-flop ping between letting Thorston go too far and stepping in.

Them and kyren fought together for 3 years, and were rather close in a way, at least Seriph thought so.

Kyren was and is unnerved by Seriph's presence. He doesn't fear him like Thorston, but also gets reaaaaaallly annoyed with him. Wants to punch them so bad but then feels bad about it, aaaand then gets annoyed about it.

Kyren is /not/ a fan of conflicting emotions and doesn't wanna deal lol

Funny shit in Mystic is how I can't decide if I should give them she or he for their "official gender", cuz like Mystics don't believe in nonbinary even though that's what they are

Ishi’li’s hobbies are messy because of his origins: they enjoyed solving Sudoku’s, and playing games, which I’d count as hobbies, but in Eorzea his old hobbies don’t hold up, cos…. Nobody makes Sudoku puzzles… and Games straight up don’t exist, to my knowledge. But he DOES learn to haggle and trade and help run business numbers. He actually genuinely enjoys math (it’s why he picks up Arcanist XD) ….. hm.. He picks up painting, after visiting the First, and subsequently Elpis, and possibly photography (Me and Zombiesock are toying with creation magic making essentially a Sheikah Slate, because due to how we shook out events Ishi is the only one of the cadre of WoL’s to actually be able to go to Elpis and they get frustrated at an inability to show it to everyone else, lmao.) … There’s not much of a common theme, they just like Learning stuff, especially if it can be applied to helping the team, (like Astrology, which is picked up, but kind of as a side gig to everything else that’s going on.) … and honestly it leans heavily into Magic, because it’s unique and interesting even if there’s a constant battle to keep up enough Mana to use it lmfao.

Tuesday likes reading (History, Cookbooks, Travel Guides, YA Short Story Romance), and cooking, even if he can’t like… taste the food he makes for some time (not sure when he gets taste but ah! He shall someday :) ) which means he’s always in need of taste testers- but not Chuu. Who is a walking nightmare for food. (If it’s not easily eaten one handed in some fashion she’s not eating it. She’s been TRYING to care more about what her food tastes like but mostly the fact that she’s gaining weight and eating 3x a day + snacks is an improvement. She LIKES archon loaf. Anyways-) he likes experimenting with textures and smells and spices, so finding people that will eat it and provide feedback is. Nice. He also finds lots of joy in little repeating tasks like, spinning/weaving, and learning to make his own fabrics and garments opens up a whole other world. He’s already out gathering stuff, or shopping, so. Making clothes is it’s own sort of rewarding (and it makes Keathan. So excited, actually. That Tuesday is creating something. For himself???) … I think most of his hobbies stem from a desire to. Find? He’s grasping for what it means to be an Individual and trying stuff and customizing himself in little ways.

🤔 Hobby lore… I’m tryna think if I got anything else interesting knocking around up here. Oh!

Tangy used to have a hobby doing whittling, nothing too crazy, cos she was v small, but it was practice using a knife so she could be more confident later in life when she’d need to skin+ clean game, y’know. …. aaaand then it got lost in the haze of everything Pre 1.0, so she hasn’t done it since, but I like to think if she picked up a little knife in NOT kitchen settings she’d feel some muscle memory kick in for it. Nowadays she likes bird watching, and sooometimes fishing, though there’s not much to catch outside the waking sands that’s suuuper worth eating, she catches lots of small fry… and sometimes a sunburn. Right across the bridge of her snout. Dreadful. I like to think sometime between ARR and Heavensward she starts making little woven jewelry pieces- bracelets and hair ties mostly, but, it keeps her hands occupied and she can always unravel them again and do it over later. So long as she doesn’t give it to someone- if she catches someone leaving she’ll tie a woven bracelet around their wrist and very seriously tell them to come back in one piece. (🤔 Training in hand-to-hand doesn’t really feel like a hobby in Eorzea, where it can be your whole job…. And sorta IS, her job… it’s her main class anyways ahaha. So I’m gonna leave that one off.) …. I don’t think there’s a common theme here aside from being time-fillers that a person can do anywhere without a lot of stuff to do it with 🤔
